Forging is a manufacturing process in which metal is heated and then hammered or pressed into shape. It can be divided into two categories: cold forging, which involves shaping the material at room temperature, and hot forging, which involves heating the metal before it is shaped. In both cases, the metal is subjected to high forces that deform it until it takes on its desired shape. Commonly forged metals include aluminum, brass, bronze, iron and steel. The most common types of forging are closed die forging (also known as impression die forging), open die forging and roll forming.
